Italian: A few exercises, write a dialogue. Not very time consuming. (Have I ever told you how much I LOVE Italian. Practically no homework compared to my other classes)
French 1: Read 63 pages. At the end of this reading, there is a pretty graphic scene of genocide in Rwanda. Thank you, French. Write a 1-2 page paper on the film and conference that we had to attend (not included in class hours, by the way). Read a 9 page article.
French 2: Read 75 pages. Not all that interesting. There are like 3 separate stories going on during this reading. (I really prefer if there's really only one main plot line. I don't really like when there are like 6 main characters. 2 is perfect for romance, 1 is fine for everything else. Keep it simple....). Write a page about a character.
Spanish: Read 178 pages. Many of which are these never-ending somewhat repetitive (in theme if not in exact words) letters the main character writes in her madness. Read an article.
Do you see why I love Italian? I finished my homework for Italian in under an hour (and that while watching JAG, so my attention was even then somewhat split. French 1 took at least 2 hours to read, about an hour to write the paper, and if we include the film and conference part, let's tack on another 2.5 hours...for a total of 5.5 hours for the weekend. French 2 took about 2-3 hours and then the paper didn't take very long. Let's say 45 minutes. Spanish, wow. I started reading that book sometime between 11 & 12, and ended at almost 4. That was rough. If I'd literally read every word, I might still be reading! I admit to some skimming near the end because of the letters (and sometimes in literature, I get the main points and the main plot better by skimming because I'm less bogged down with all the unnecessary fluff that's often in literary books. No, seriously. I also had to read an article about the book, and many critics think that that portion that I skimmed is what kept the novel from being a great novel. So you see, I have good instincts). wheeeeeeew. At least it's done. For now. Looking at my next week's schedule, SO much MORE reading. Especially for my French (French 2) class -74 pages for Thursday. I sound so complainy! It's not so much that I mind doing the readings, but that there's so much of it all at once. My advisor warned us freshman year that taking more than 1 literature class is a bad idea. I just finished week 2 and I can already see how bad this is going to be. I couldn't really help it though; that's the nature of being a language double major. As a joint major I'd be pretty much done now...just chillin'....=D So, yeah. Have I told you how much I love Italian?
