Tale As Old As Time
I recently got the book Tale as Old as Time: The Art and Making of Beauty and the Beast by Charles Solomon, and it's so interesting. I was really excited to read it after reading Mouse Under Glass because this book will focus in just on Beauty and the Beast (my favorite Disney princess movie even though Aurora is my favorite Disney princess. Not sure why. I've always had a thing for blond hair. In kindergarten, I think I went so far as to ask my mom if I could have blond hair which, of course, failed and it's a good thing because I'd look TERRIBLE with blond hair. Plus, I'm a lot like Belle already, so Aurora is more exotic/interesting. Seriously, whenever I take the "which princess are you?" quiz, I get Belle. Probably because I read...) and get more into the process of making a film, which I'm also very interested in. I like learning about how the filmmakers and artists came up with the various aspects of the film; the process is so much more complicated and topsy turvy (a great phrase I learned from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Yea for Disney movies!) than I would have imagined. I only just started it, but I really like it so far. Here are some pix:The bottom two pictures are of the research that goes into all aspects of the film- characters, backgrounds, etc. The lucky artists got to go on a "research trip" to France! =D Oh, the life.
